Algae starting to grow everywhere in the tank, and the fish poo everywhere! The nitrite and nitrate level never go down! Even the Nitra-Zorb that I bought doesn't help! So I've decided to go for industrial size rescue! I bought myself this UV Steriliser through my loyal seller on Ebay!
This little gem looks a bit like a UFO with blue light rings around the tubes. It will kill all the bacteria that pass through the UV light in the tube. So it will stop the tank from growing more algae, and the fish will never ever get sick again. Well, that's the guarantee from the Seller, I took his words for it.
Take it from an expert UV sterilisers work but kill benificial algae. The show quality goldfish colors happen in pea green water. Dont worry about algae and dont buy a pleco whatever you do. They harm goldfish by eating the slime coat that protects them.
Dont believe me... see how the chinese raise perfect fish with little money.

Posted by: Airbag at November 17, 2004 05:02 PMyes I know, the pebbles and the statue in my tank already have green algae, and not brown patches. My tank been more than 2 months now, i think is well established enough. So far, my tank has passed through all the critical stages now, no more ammonia, the nitrite and nitrate level has gone done immensely. UV steriliser is to keep the tank clean free from algae and bacteria is definitely worth it.
Posted by: figuromo at November 17, 2004 08:23 AMThe article said it can only be used on established tank, so it may kill your good bacteria.
If you are talking about the brown patch, those are not algae, they are called diatoms, it is harmless and normally will go away only after like half a year or so, that's what I read.
Do you vacuum your gravels when changing water?
dont know, but uv steriliser is definitely one of the most effective way to control Algae. http://www.aquadirect.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=24
