No one else is the same! Jem is my name!

80's florescent make up, checked lycra pants, pink color puffy hair, and cheesy songs and dance steps, that's what one of my childhood favorite cartoon is all about. Oh yes, it is The Jem & The Holograms!

I am not sure this cartoon has ever shown in Australia, but this cartoon will be on TV every Sunday morning and yes, I never miss an episode, I even started to tape them every weekend. Sad... yes... but I was only 10yo, what do I know!! Jem and the Holograms is amazing! They are all everyday chicks who have singing talent, Jem will just simply touched her earring and says "Show time, synergy!" and hey Presto! They will all tranform into Superstars and always rock the house down!

And of course, you won't call it an 80's cartoon if it doesn't have goodies and the baddies, and the goodies always win in the end. The Misfits is the culprit in the show, with more hardrocking style, tight lycra, just imagine a mixture of Pat Benatar and Samantha Fox. They will always try to sabotage Jem and the Holograms' performance, outings and even love life. I think back in 80s, what makes this cartoon unique is the half time music clips. Jem and the Holograms will always have innocent, glamour pussy songs, and The Misfits will have wilder rock n roll style. Funny thing is actually The Misfits always have the better songs and clips. Everyone likes drama that suddenly breaks into songs and dances, don't we? There are few songs from the show that definitely more distinctive than others and I still can remember those music clips. For instance, Jem and The holograms' Glitter and Gold is a highlight, with her golden peacock neck style sequin, always remind me of the 80s HK singer, Teresa Tsui (徐小鳳) with her outrageous costumes. And from The Misfits, too many good songs, especially I Am A Giant (they turned into giants and rumbled across the streets), Universal Appeal (catching galaxy and shooting stars clip rocks!) and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (I think is fighting over a record, casino style).

This cartoon probably too girly for a boy like me but definitely not shame to admit I used to be a fan, and I might trying to hunt the DVDs down and relive the childhood! The kissing scene of Jem and Rio, and how The Misfits sabotaged Jem almost kill her at the snowfield avalanche.... doesn't it sound familiar like afternoon soap opera?! I am so desperate that I even hunted down a little small clip of the opening credit of the cartoon (or you can download the mp3 here). Fuck! isn't it great those 80's cartoons!!!

Jem! (Jem),

The music's contagious (outrageous)

Jem is my name!

No one else is the same!

Jem is my name!

p/s: Need Real Player to listen the songs and watch the video.
