For some reason, I wasn't excited at all when I heard about Peter Jackson remaking the old classic hit King Kong. I think probably alot of people are just like me, having a mental image of the old classic black and white King Kong, with a giant plush ape climbing up the Chrysler building, and Fay Wray with her signature one hand over her forehead, screaming out with a squeak that almost can break glasses. So it probably seems funny to watch it again rather than excited. Besides, when I saw the trailer, I thought what the fuck was Peter thinking to put King Kong with the Jurassic Park dinasours together??? However, I was wrong, Peter Jackson has definitely brought the old King Kong back to life and change my whole opinion about a girl falling in love for an ape all over again.
The movie sets in the 1930s during the depression-era, everyone is struggling to earn a living especially in the show business. So a group of explorers and an overzealous film director, Carl Denham, (Jack Black), decided to find the mysterious Skull Island to shoot his next film. Carl has brought Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) along, who will be the leading actress in his film. And also Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody), the underpaid screenwriter for his film also got tricked into this adventure to the island.
On the island, they have discovered something that is bigger than life and something that shouldn't have been discovered at first place. Ann finds compassion and the true meaning of humanity with an ape that has been protected by the local tribals, named Kong. The beauty and the beast finally meet their fate back in the city of NY where Carl takes and displays the ape in quest of his fame by commercial exploitation which ultimately leads to catastrophe for everyone including Jack who falls in love with Ann and plays an unlikely hero by trying to save her from Kong and her destiny.
First off, this movie is 187mins long, (over 3 hours). Pete thinks is bit long, but somehow I didn't mind it a single bit. The movie did start off slow, but once the action kicks in, I was totally deep in the movie and the time just passed so quickly over my head. I know the jurassic dinasours mixed with King Kong seems bit far fetched, but somehome I enjoyed it very much so!!! There are some amazing CG in the movie, and I think this movie definitely need to be watched on big screen to really enjoy it. One thing I have noticed is, there are some scenes from trailer which isnt part of the 3 hours long movie, does that mean there is a longer version director's cut coming out soon on DVD???? mmmm...... that will be interesting. It's a good movie for this festive season, the ticket sales for this movie isn't so great apparently due to the pre-Xmas released and everyone is waiting for the Narnia instead, but fuck that, I reckond all should go and watch it.
One more thing I should mention about is Peter Jackson's weight loss!!!! His appearance during the releases of LOTR wasn't the best looking one with his dorky glasses, overweight and scruffy hair mixed with beard look. But now he is a whole new man, with some queer eye for the straight guys make over tips, he has slimmed down, a slick hairstyle and even wearing contact lenses. What a transformation. Man, if being a film director can make you lose weight, I am sooo gonna make more films in future!!!

I saw the movie last weekend. I still think that dinasours scene is more like a Jurassic park moment, but nicely done.
